GUIDANCE
When Should You Consider a Consultation?
Speak with a gynaecological healthcare professional if you are concerned about:
A change from your usual cycle can be clinically relevant even when someone else's menstrual pattern is different.
heavy, prolonged or between-period bleeding
persistent period pain, pelvic discomfort or pain
known or suspected PCOS
known or suspected endometriosis
fibroids, uterine concerns, fertility-related symptoms or questions before planning pregnancy
GUIDANCE
How Are Gynaecological Concerns Evaluated?
Evaluation depends on the symptom and the patient's reproductive goals. Irregular cycles, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding and fertility concerns can point to different causes, so the doctor should choose tests that answer the right clinical question.
Patients trying to conceive, planning pregnancy later or managing PCOS/endometriosis may need fertility-focused discussion in addition to symptom relief.
Medical & Menstrual History
The doctor reviews cycle pattern, bleeding, pain, previous pregnancies, medicines and relevant health conditions.
Examination When Appropriate
A clinical or pelvic examination may be recommended depending on the concern and with appropriate discussion and consent.
Ultrasound or Selected Tests
Ultrasound, blood tests, hormone tests or other investigations may be advised when they answer a specific clinical question.
Fertility-Focused Review
When pregnancy is a current or future goal, evaluation may also consider ovulation, ovarian reserve, tubal risk factors and partner testing. Not every patient requires the same tests. For example, abnormal bleeding, irregular ovulation and pelvic pain can have different causes and therefore need different evaluations.
GUIDANCE
Gynaecological Health & Fertility
Some gynaecological conditions can affect fertility, including ovulation problems associated with PCOS, endometriosis, selected fibroids, tubal disease and other reproductive conditions.
If you are currently trying to conceive or hope to become pregnant in the future, tell the doctor. Fertility goals can influence which investigations and treatment options are most appropriate.
Treatment may involve observation, medicines, lifestyle guidance, fertility-focused care or referral/procedural treatment depending on the diagnosis.
