Irregular or Missing Periods
Irregular or absent periods may indicate that ovulation is not occurring regularly.
FERTILITY JOURNEY
Recognise when fertility concerns may benefit from specialist evaluation early.

TIMING GUIDE
For couples without a known fertility concern, the timing of evaluation generally depends on age and medical history.
Consider fertility evaluation after about 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse without pregnancy.
Consider speaking with a fertility specialist after about 6 months of trying.
A more immediate fertility discussion may be appropriate rather than waiting.
You do not need to wait for the usual timeline when a known medical or reproductive condition may affect fertility.
EARLIER ADVICE
Irregular or absent periods may indicate that ovulation is not occurring regularly.
Known PCOS or persistent cycle irregularity may justify earlier fertility assessment.
Known endometriosis, previous pelvic infection, tubal concerns or selected pelvic surgery may affect fertility.
Abnormal semen results, testicular history or sexual/ejaculatory difficulties are reasons to evaluate the male partner as well.
Previous chemotherapy, radiation or relevant medical conditions may justify earlier fertility advice.
Previous unsuccessful IUI, IVF or fertility investigation should be reviewed before deciding the next treatment step.

FIRST VISIT
A first consultation should help understand why pregnancy may be delayed, not automatically move every couple towards IVF. The doctor may review your duration of trying, menstrual or ovulation history, previous pregnancies, medical conditions, previous fertility treatment, ultrasound or blood reports, semen analysis, medicines, previous surgery and the reproductive health of both partners. Investigations may involve ovulation, uterus or tubes, ovarian reserve where relevant and male semen evaluation. Not every patient needs every available test.
COUPLE CARE
Difficulty conceiving may involve female factors, male factors, both, or sometimes no clear cause. Evaluating both partners can reduce unnecessary delay, help interpret previous reports more clearly and support treatment planning based on the couple rather than only one side of the history.
IRENE IVF CENTRE
At Irene IVF Centre in Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi, couples can discuss fertility concerns and previous reports with Dr. Indira Ganeshan before deciding on further investigation or treatment. Consultation may include infertility evaluation and discussion of IVF, IUI, ICSI, egg freezing and reproductive medicine where relevant.
FAQ
You may consider earlier advice if you are 35 or above, over 40, or have a known fertility or reproductive-health concern.
No. A first consultation is meant to understand why pregnancy may be delayed and what evaluation may be relevant. Not every couple is directed to IVF.
Yes, where possible. Fertility can involve female factors, male factors, both partners, or no clear cause, so couple evaluation can reduce delay.
Bring the reports for review. The doctor can look at the trying timeline, both partners history and whether any further or repeated evaluation is actually needed.
