TREATMENTS

IVF Treatment

Understand IVF treatment, evaluation, laboratory fertilisation, and transfer planning clearly.

GUIDANCE

When May IVF Be Considered?

IVF may be discussed when fertility evaluation identifies situations such as:

The reason for recommending IVF should be explained clearly so that a couple understands why it is being considered and what alternatives may exist.

blocked or significantly damaged fallopian tubes

selected male fertility factors

endometriosis-associated infertility

persistent infertility after other appropriate treatment

selected cases of unexplained infertility

situations where IUI or simpler treatment is unlikely to be appropriate

PROCESS

What Happens During an IVF Cycle?

An IVF cycle is a sequence of planned steps rather than a single procedure. Before starting, the doctor should review the couple's assessment, explain why IVF is being considered and discuss how ovarian response, semen findings and embryo development will guide decisions during the cycle.

The exact protocol can vary. Age, ovarian reserve, previous response to treatment, medical history and laboratory findings may influence medicine doses, monitoring and whether conventional IVF, ICSI or embryo freezing is discussed.

Ovarian Stimulation & Monitoring

Fertility medicines may be used to encourage several follicles to develop. Ultrasound and, when required, blood tests help the clinical team monitor the ovarian response and plan the next stage.

Egg Retrieval

When the follicles are ready, eggs are collected through a planned medical procedure. The exact timing and preparation depend on the treatment protocol.

Fertilisation & Embryo Development

The collected eggs are combined with sperm in the laboratory. Conventional IVF or ICSI may be used depending on the sperm findings, previous fertilisation history and clinical plan. Fertilised eggs are then observed as they develop into embryos.

Embryo Transfer

A suitable embryo may be transferred into the uterus. If additional suitable embryos are available, freezing may be discussed for possible future use according to the couple's treatment plan.

IVF Is a Personalised Treatment

Two couples with the same diagnosis may not need exactly the same IVF protocol. Planning can be influenced by:

IVF treatment cannot guarantee fertilisation, embryo development or pregnancy. Your doctor should explain expected benefits, limitations and relevant risks before treatment begins.

age and reproductive history

ovarian reserve and ovarian response

semen-analysis findings

uterus and fallopian-tube findings

previous IVF or IUI cycles

other medical or reproductive conditions

Questions to Bring to Your IVF Consultation

Consider bringing previous blood tests, ultrasound reports, semen-analysis reports and earlier IUI/IVF records. Useful questions include:

A clear discussion before starting treatment can help couples understand each stage rather than feeling that they are moving through the process without a plan.

Why is IVF being considered in our case?

Are any additional tests needed before treatment?

Would conventional IVF or ICSI be more appropriate?

How will my response to stimulation be monitored?
